Art of Reason: Honda Crown Road audio modification case reveals the system philosophy of “less is more”

In the field of car audio modification, a crucial core concept is the reasonable collocation and scientific configuration of the system. The real professionalism lies in knowing how to “cut the complexity and simplify it” and accurately grasp the role and value of each piece of equipment in the overall system. Blindly stacking all kinds of high-end or redundant equipment will not only not guarantee the excellent final sound quality, but will bring many negative effects: unnecessary loss of power, increase the burden on the electrical system of the whole vehicle, aggravate the possibility of interference between equipment, and make the system debugging extremely complicated. Many audio enthusiasts who are new to this field often fall into a misunderstanding, thinking that the more and more complex equipment installed on the car, the better the final effect will be. However, the real situation is just the opposite-only a system that is carefully planned, scientifically matched and professionally modified can its effect truly meet or even exceed expectations. The scheme of Honda Crown Road we modified this time is an excellent embodiment of this concept: the configuration and collocation are extremely simple and efficient, and each selected equipment can be “independent” in the system, giving full play to its design performance, and at the same time, they can be harmonious and unified with each other, in line with the music style pursued by car owners, and jointly build a pure and infectious sound world.

Detailed list of simplified and efficient modification plans for Honda Crown Road car audio system:

1. Sound source part: Keep and optimize the original car owner as the signal source and control center of the system to ensure the convenience of daily use and the integrity of the original car functions.

2. Front sound field speaker: Use the German Rainbow (formerly Rainbow brand) PL professional series two-way package. This series is famous for its accurate timbre reproduction, excellent dynamics and solid mid-low frequency performance. It is a wise choice for both sound quality and cost performance.

3. Subwoofer system: Equipped with a German Ground Zero 8-inch subwoofer unit, and a special box with acoustic calculations is tailored for it to supplement the deep, powerful and well-controlled low frequencies.

4. Front sound field power amplifier: German zero point UA 4.150 SQ four-channel sound quality power amplifier is selected. This amplifier drives the front soundstage horn with excellent sound resolution, delicate musical expression and plenty of power.

5. Subwoofer power amplifier: Equipped with German zero point IW 2080 HPX-II mono high-power power amplifier, it is specially used to drive subwoofer to ensure surging power and fast response at low frequencies.

6. All-car wires: High-quality wires from Bani and Monster brands are used to ensure the purity, efficiency and stability of signal and power transmission.

7. Special power supply system: Install American Stinger audio special batteries to provide independent, stable and abundant power supply for the entire audio system to avoid mutual interference with the original car circuit.

The following is a detailed construction process record of this Honda Crown Road audio system modification project.

Installation details of the woofer unit in the door. We first customized a high-density waterproof wooden gasket for it. Its size is completely precisely made according to the original door panel horn position and horn installation requirements to ensure stable installation and improve acoustic effects.

The overall rendering of the bass unit in the door panel after the installation is completed, the wiring is standardized, and the sealing treatment is in place.

The retrofit of the tweeter is a combination of craftsmanship and aesthetics. For this heavy tweeter from Rekal, Germany, we use computer numerical control (CNC) technology to make its installation mold, ensuring the absolute accuracy of the data dimensions. Riders who know this speaker know that its tweeter is full of weight. It is not easy to modify it to be firm and durable, visually beautiful and harmonious, and it requires an extremely meticulous and rigorous attitude.

The main model of the treble installation mold has been preliminarily made, and its accurate outline and structure can be seen.

Detailed renderings of the tweeter unit modification completed. We ultimately decided to retain the natural texture and texture of the moulded logs without cladding or painting. The true color of this log and the precise metal outer ring of the tweeter set off with each other, presenting a unique and advanced texture, which is simple, low-key but stylish, which is just in line with the owner’s personality taste.

The visual renderings after the overall modification of the A-pillar are completed, and the treble and log mold are perfectly combined, becoming a unique scenery in the car.

The German 0-point 4-channel power amplifier that drives the front sound field speaker is integrated and installed at the bottom of the passenger seat together with the Bewith DSP processor responsible for system audio processing, saving space and facilitating heat dissipation.

Excellence in cable selection: At first, we configured Barney’s entry-level signal cable for the system, but in the subsequent comparative audition, the owner obviously noticed the improvement of sound quality brought by higher-level cables. After comparing the effects, the owner decisively decided to upgrade to Barney’s signature dark blue signal line in order to pursue more extreme signal transmission purity.

The German zero point mono power amplifier that drives the subwoofer is installed at the bottom of the driver’s seat to achieve the left and right balance of the weight of the equipment.

The safety core of independent power supply of the entire sound system-the installation position and details of the main safety seat.

The real shot of the installation of Stinger’s special battery for high-performance audio in the United States, which provides a steady stream of “energy reserve” for the system.

The internal volume, structure and inverter hole of the special box tailored for Germany’s 0-point 8-inch ultra-low sound have been scientifically calculated to ensure the best bass effect.
