Crown car owners’ auditory philosophy: reconstructing car audio aesthetics with high-order two-way systems

Today, with the rapid development of electroacoustic technology, audio equipment and processing technology are constantly upgraded iteratively. However, an often misunderstood concept is that the pursuit of ultimate sound effects must rely on more complex system architectures, such as upgrading from two-way to three-way or even four-way. Starting from professional acoustic design principles, the situation is just the opposite. The core concept of an excellent sound system is often “refining” rather than “piling up”. Under ideal conditions, the fewer the number of speaker units used in the system, the fewer the frequency division network and the links between units that the sound signal needs to pass through, which can effectively reduce the sound degradation caused by phase distortion, improper frequency connection and mutual interference between units. Simplifying the system structure and allowing each unit to work efficiently and linearly over a wider frequency band is often the smart choice for more natural, more accurate and less distorted sound. This is just in line with the old saying: only by respecting professionalism can we avoid detours.

The Toyota Crown owner who cooperated with us this time is a senior family Hi-Fi audio enthusiast. Years of experience have made him have a deep understanding and unique cognition of the overall architecture, collocation philosophy and sound essence of the sound system. He was deeply aware that in a mobile cabin with a narrow space and an extremely complex acoustic environment like a car, it was much more difficult to replay close to real and touching music than a well-designed home listening room. Therefore, the system construction idea of “deleting complexity and simplifying” is particularly important. Simplifying complexity aims to reduce variables and pursue the ultimate performance of each link, so as to maximize sound purity and overall balance in a limited space. Car owners dabble in a wide range of music types on weekdays, from magnificent symphonies, to emotionally delicate vocal singing, to pop songs with bright rhythms. This puts forward quite high requirements for the comprehensiveness, balance and dynamic performance of the sound system. Based on the car owner’s listening preferences, strict standards for sound quality and the “simple and refined” modification concept, we have tailored the following set of sound upgrade solutions for him that focus on quality and rationality.

The following is a group photo and detailed configuration list of all core equipment prepared for this upgrade:

Sound source part: Keep and use the high-quality audio output signal of the original main engine, which is due to the good signal quality of the original main engine itself and in line with the original intention of simplifying the system.

Front sound field core: Choose the top series of two-way speakers under Aiwei brand. The design philosophy of this set of speakers is highly consistent with the concept of this modification.

Front sound field driver: Matched with an Aiwei top series four-channel power amplifier, it provides abundant, pure and fully controlled power support for the front sound field speaker.

Low frequency supplement: Add an 8-inch subwoofer of the German Zero brand and equip it with a customized cabinet with accurate calculations to perfect the restoration of extremely low frequency bands and enhance the atmosphere of music
