Highlander car audio evolution theory: Aiwei’s top two-way system realizes the transformation from “sound” to “good sound”
A few days ago, when communicating with a senior audio enthusiast, I heard his sincere feeling: “In the world of electroacoustic equipment, feelings often give way to scientific and technological progress.” This sentence profoundly reveals that the core driving force for the development of the car audio industry-the ever-changing electronic technology is constantly breaking through the boundaries of traditional cognition and reshaping our understanding and pursuit of good voice. Going back ten years ago, large tweeters with an aperture of three inches rarely appeared in vehicle-mounted two-way systems, let alone achieving such a wide frequency response range from 250 Hz to 28 kHz. Behind this, there is an acoustic principle verified by countless old players: the more frequency division points are set, the more challenging the frequency connection between the speaker units will be; Once there is a flaw in the connection, it is easy to lead to phase distortion, which eventually makes the sound become sparse in density, chaotic in layers and loose in image, losing the cohesion and appeal of music. Based on the profound insight into this fundamental problem and technical tackling, the AVI KING series two-way speaker system came into being. Judging from its core technical parameters, it precisely uses its innovative unit design to accurately make up for the above-mentioned inherent shortcomings that traditional multi-frequency division systems may have.

The Highlander owner who served this time has been exploring the road of car audio modification for a long time, and can be described as an “enthusiast” who has accumulated experience in continuous practice. From his system that has undergone many adjustments, we can see an enthusiast’s unremitting pursuit of sound quality, and also understand the painstaking efforts and attempts made in it. Based on a comprehensive assessment of its existing system configuration and in-depth communication of listening needs, our upgrade plan this time focuses on the rejuvenation of the core front sound field: we recommend and adopt the Aiwei KING series two-way speaker set as the new system. “Sound Center”. As for the back-stage driving and tuning equipment such as power amplifiers and DSP processors, the old ones are fully used, and the existing high-quality equipment of car owners is used for integration and re-debugging, so as to achieve a leap-forward improvement in sound quality performance while optimizing the budget.
Below, we will share the details of the specific modification process with the idea of “core unit upgrade, system optimization and integration” through detailed graphic records for the reference and communication of riders and enthusiasts.
The first thing to do is the upgrade of the tweeter unit. The iconic four-inch large-diameter tweeter of Aiwei KING series will be replaced and installed in the tweeter position of the original car without loss. The picture below shows the original state of the treble of the original car before the modification started.

After rigorous installation and fixation, the effect of Aiwei four-inch tweeter after modification is shown in the figure below. Its installation is stable and fits perfectly with the original car interior panel, laying a solid foundation for subsequent accurate sound field positioning.

Next is the installation of the mid-woofer unit. We made full use of the special speaker gasket that the owner had equipped during the previous modification, and on the premise of ensuring a firm and reliable installation foundation, we installed the Aiwei KING series mid-woofer unit in the original position of the door.

The core of system drive and adjustment is the owner’s original high-quality post-stage equipment. As shown in the figure, it includes a stable Kalai four-channel power amplifier and a full-featured Finlang DSP digital audio processor. We will re-integrate, wire and deeply debug these existing devices to achieve the best working synergy with the new Aiwei front sound field speakers and unlock the overall potential of the system.
